Meet our Coaches
Jeff Laping
Coach Laping has been coaching basketball in the Province of Manitoba for over 25 years. He is currently the varsity boys coach at St Paul’s High school, where he has led the Crusaders to 5 conference championships, 11 final fours, and 4 Provincial Championships, producing 25 Canadian College or U-Sport players.
He has been an assistant coach with the University of Manitoba Bisons. He is the former president of the Manitoba Basketball Coaches Association, has coached many Provincial teams, and the Basketball Canada’s Centre for Performance. He was the 2009, and 2014 winner of the AAAA boys coach of the year and, was awarded the Peter Dyck award for coaching excellence in 2010.
Randy Kusano
Coach Kusano has been coaching basketball in the Province of Manitoba for over 40 years. He is currently an assistant with Basketball Canada’s TAP Program, and with the U17 provincial girls team. He coached at Oak Park High School for 34 years going to 15 final fours and winning 3 AAAA boys Provincial Championships, while producing 25 players that went on to play at the Canadian College or CIS level.
He has coached on many Provincial teams over the years that have competed at the Canada Games, Western Canada Games, and the National Championships. He has been awarded many AAAA boys coach of the year award and in 2010 won the Mike Spack award for his career contribution to basketball in Manitoba. In 2022, Coach Kusano was inducted into the Manitoba Basketball Hall of Fame.
